Call for the 2008-09 Government of Ireland Scholarships for Officials of New & Candidate EU States.

In 2008-09 the Government of Ireland will once again sponsor a substantial scholarship fund for national government officials of New Member States and Candidate States of the European Union.*

The scholarship will pay the complete tuition fee for the Master of Economic Science in European Economic and Public Affairs (MEconSc) programme in the UCD School of Politics and International Relations: the Dublin European Institute. The scholarship will also pay for 12 months of on-campus accommodation in purpose-built postgraduate residences (single room with shared facilities); grant office space in a study room for Scholarship students; and provide financial subsidy for two study trips to Brussels and Florence. It is not, however, able to fund per diem expenses, or provide a stipend.

The MEconSc European Economic and Public Affairs is a long-established graduate programme offering a wide choice of modules in multiple disciplines. It is ideal for professionals and policy-makers seeking to build a career in the EU or in other sectors of the private, public and voluntary spheres, as well as a strong foundation for further academic research. Its one-year, full-time syllabus is designed to equip graduates with strong expertise in contemporary European affairs and public policy. Core courses are taken from the disciplines of Politics/International Relations and Economics, and options in Business and/or Law. Students also complete a dissertation and are given training in relevant research methods. In addition to the coursework, the programme features two study trips, respectively to Brussels and Florence, which allow participants to interact with a wider range of policy-makers and leading academics in the field.

We would be grateful if you could pass this information to any citizens of your country whom you consider may be eligible. Applicants must be employed as national government officials (including diplomatic missions abroad) of one of the 15 specified states.
